GILBERT CECIL BOND SR. "Cecil" was born on July 28, 1934 to the late Norvel "Shimmy" and Isabella Bond in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He departed this life on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Perry Point VA Medical Hospital in Perryville, MD.
Cecil received his early education in Havre de Grace, MD and received his HS Diploma from the Havre de Grace Consolidated Colored High School in 1951. Cecil was a Tech Sergeant in the US Air Force from 1954-1958 and served in the Korean War. Cecil spent most of his employment working in the field of Recreation services because of his love of people and his high level of energy. Cecil started his career in the Recreation field at the Perry Point VA Medical Facility in 1959. It became a passion for him to work and motivate people so he spent the majority of his career working with juvenile delinquent youth through the State of Maryland's Juvenile Services Administration. He worked in several program through JSA such as the Charles H. Hickey School known also as the Maryland Training School for delinquent boys and girls, the Waxter Center and lastly as the Recreational Supervisor for juvenile delinquents at the Cheltenhem Youth Facility in Prince Georges County, MD where he retired from the State of Maryland in 1994. Cecil was a very loving husband; father, brother, son, grandfather and friend to all. He also loved telling jokes, cooking on the grill at Masonic picnics, bowling on the leagues, fishing, boxing, playing basketball, visiting the sick and cooking the world's best potato salad.
Past Master Bond was a member of Chesapeake Lodge #48 in Havre de Grace, Maryland where he served as Master for 4 years. He also, served as the Historian for the 6th Masonic District and assisted in the study club. He loved Masonry.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Elizabeth Ann Lee on January 1, 1960, and from this union they were blessed with four children: three daughters and 1 son. Cecil Bond dearly loved his family. He enjoyed having his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren especially for Christmas Dinner and family sharing time.
Cecil leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Kimberley Bond, Massachusetts, Lisa Bond Garcia (Esteban), Maryland and Patricia (Patsy) Jackson (Charles D. Jr.), Maryland; three brothers and one sister: Edward Bond, Washington, DC, Theodore Bond, Maryland, George Bond, Pennsylvania, and Lois Brooks, Maryland, two aunts: Mary Jane Lane and Alice Lisby both of Maryland, Eight grandchildren: Erica McIntosh (Purnell), Michael Meade, Nicole Meade, Elizabeth Jackson, Anndreia Bond, David Jackson, Rebecca Jackson and Jared Cephas, two great-grandchildren: Antonio Rouse and Olivia McIntosh. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Cecil Bond was predeceased by three brothers: Allen Jackson, Joseph Bond and Robert Jackson and his only son: Gilbert Cecil Bond Jr.
Services will be held 12 noon Saturday February 13, 2010 at St. James A.M.E. Church, 615 Green Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Burial will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemtery, Owings Mills, MD.
