Semonavick, William

William Semonavick (SMS, USAF Ret) died on Friday, June 27th at Silver Lake Center, Dover. He was 83 years old.

Mr. Semonavick was born August 19, 1919 in New York, New York to the late Wessil Semonavick and Anna Obromovich Semonavick. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years in Aircraft Quality Control.He served during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the NCO Academy and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.

He received his Masters Degree in Education from Salisbury State University and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Delaware State University. He taught 7th grade in the Newark School District for 13 years, retiring in 1984. He was also involved in the C.C. Camps where he helped restore Fort Defiance in Tacoma, Washington.

He lived in the Dover area for 40 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, life member of NRA, life member of American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2, Amateur Radio Club, and Delaware State Sportsman Association. He was a Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout leader and received the Scoutmasters Order of the Arrow.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Semonavick; one son William Semonavick Jr. and his wife Sherry of Dover, DE; one daughter, Marianne S. Jarrell of Magnolia, DE, and five grandchildren: Laura Faircloth and her husband Douglas, Cindy Rogers, Courtney Semonavick, Dustin Semonavick, and Frank Myers and his wife Laurie. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 8 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover, DE. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia on July 16th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Activities Fund of the Old Soldiers Home, Washington, D.C., c/o Torbert Funeral Chapel..
