Robert E. Anderson, of Cambridge, passed away at the Perry Point VA Hospital in Perryville on Tuesday, January 9, 2001. He was 65. He was born in Cambridge on June 22, 1935 and was the son of the late Medford James and Hazel Dodson Anderson.

Mr. Anderson had attended schools in Cambridge, and had graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953. For a number of years he had worked at Coastal Foods, Cambridge Automotive and also at Delmarva Power. Mr. Anderson had served as City Commissioner in Cambridge from 1964 until 1968. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1968 until 1985. He had served two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded the following decorations: Vietnam service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Overseas Service Bars, Army Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation With Palm. He later had worked with Tri County Trenching Co. He was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post # 7460, VFW. He had been in failing health since October, and had been a patient at the Perry Point VA Hospital for the past two weeks where he passed away on Tuesday morning.

He is survived by three daughters: Lisa A. Neild of Cambridge; Patricia A. Hallowell of Hurlock and Jennifer A. Edgar of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Marcia A. Neild, T. Lee Neild, Jr., Thomas R. “T.J.” Hallowell, Jr., Logan K. Hallowell and Guy C. Edgar, IV; one sister, Claudette A. Davis of Cambridge, one brother, J. Thomas Anderson of Cambridge, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Choptank Memorial Post # 7460, C/O Mrs. Lorraine Dickerson, 10 Harris Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be : Thomas L. Neild, Sr., T. Lee Neild, Jr., Thomas R. Hallowell, Sr., Thomas R. “TJ” Hallowell, Jr., Logan Hallowell, Guy C. Edgar III, Guy C. Edgar, IV and J. Davis.
