CHARLES R. LANDON, JR., affectionately known as "Grinder" and "Dicky", 64, of Crisfield, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Crisfield on June 12, 1942, he was a son of the late Charles Richard and Pansy Sterling Landon.
A graduate of the Crisfield High School Class of 1960, he was a retired 1st Sergeant with the Army National Guard of Maryland serving 23 years with the 1229th Transportation Company of Crisfield. He was also retired from the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources where he was an engineer on the motor vessel J. Millard Tawes in Crisfield. In addition, he served two years with the Coast & Geodetic Survey in Norfolk, Virginia.
He was a member of the Crisfield Elks Lodge #1044, and he attended the Crisfield Church of God. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
He is survived by his devoted wife of four years, Lorraine Landon of Crisfield; his daughter, Debbie Kellam of Crisfield; four step-children and their spouses, Ronnie and Barbara Coulbourne of Tangier, Virginia, Donnie and Lynette Coulbourne of Crisfield, Lori and Elwood Lee of Dudley, North Carolina and Eddie Sterling of Crisfield; nine grandchildren, Trip, Melinda, Chelsea, Jamie, Staci, Randy, Katelyn, Jessica and Josh; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Tyler; one brother, Chris Landon and his wife Ruth Ann of Crisfield; two sisters, Quinna Kennedy and her husband Bill of Middletown, Pennsylvania and Jolene Tyler and her husband Lloyd of Crisfield; and two special nieces, Juanita and Bev.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 2 PM at the Crisfield Church of God. Friends may call Saturday evening from 7-9 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The Rev. Philip Morris will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.
