She received her education at Cedars Public School and went on to further her education at Hosanna Colored School. She worked many years at Whiteford Packing Company. She also worked as a sewing machine operator at Fawn Grove Manufacturing Company and Glen Eagles Manufacturing Company in Bel Air, Maryland.
She was united in holy matrimony to Bernard Hawkins. From this union three children were born, Shirley, Phillip and June. Catherine and Bernard spent many years as residents of Delta, PA.
Catherine joined St. James A.M.E. Church in Darlington, Maryland at an early age. There she sang on the church choir and was a member of the Ways & Means Committee, as well as a preacher stewardess. She later became a born again Christian at Zion Temple Apostolic Faith under the leadership of the late Evangelist Dorothy V. Barnes in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She maintained many loyal patrons in parts of Harford and York County. She was talented in crafts and as a seamstress.
